At Radiant Credit Union, we believe financial well-being starts with a strong foundation. For many families, that foundation is a safe, stable home, which is why we’re proud to announce our partnership with Alachua Habitat for Humanity and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta (FHLBank Atlanta) to support the construction of 10 new single-family homes in Alachua County through a $250,000 Affordable Housing Program (AHP) grant.
This grant, awarded through FHLBank Atlanta’s AHP General Fund, will provide down payment assistance to 10 qualified homebuyers participating in Alachua Habitat’s Homeownership Program. These homes will be built in East Gainesville and the City of Alachua, offering local families the opportunity to achieve homeownership and build brighter futures.
“Helping families achieve the dream of owning a home is at the heart of what we do,” said Tom Barnard, President & CEO of Radiant Credit Union. “This project reflects our mission to uplift lives and strengthen the communities we serve.”
Each future homeowner will contribute 250 hours of hands-on involvement in the construction of their home, while also completing financial and homeownership education. This personal investment helps reduce construction costs and empowers families with the knowledge and confidence to succeed as homeowners.
Many of these homes will be built on donated lots, further extending the impact of the funding and ensuring that more families can benefit from this initiative.
“This funding is transformative,” said Kristine Thompson, Interim Executive Director of Alachua Habitat for Humanity. “It’s not just for our organization, but for the 10 families who will achieve the dream of homeownership because of it. With the support of Radiant Credit Union and FHLBank Atlanta, we can build more than homes—we can build lasting change for generations to come.”

In December 2024, FHLBank Atlanta selected Alachua Habitat for Humanity as one of 66 recipients of its AHP General Fund, which contributed a total of $55 million in grants to support the development or rehabilitation of 4,200 affordable housing units.
“Our members like Radiant Credit Union are engrained in their communities, going well beyond providing financial services to make a meaningful difference,” said Kirk Malmberg, President and CEO of FHLBank Atlanta. “We are proud to support this initiative and the families it will serve.”
We’re honored to play a role in this important work. Together with our partners and community members, we’re helping to make homeownership a reality for more families in Alachua County
